It’s Fair Time!

I always look forward to August because the county fair arrives. It’s down the street from our cottage, so we can walk to it and don’t have to bother with parking our car in a bumpy, dirty field. The traffic going past our house on the road to the fair creates a lot of dust which settles on our cars parked in the driveway, but this year we conquered the problem for our new car, We purchased a canopy shed and have parked the car (the vehicle we use most often for our trips to town) in it. The truck remains in the drive and is dirty, but we’ll hose it down after the fair closes.

Yes, there’s a lot of traffic and noise from the truck and tractor pulls and the demolition derbies, but they never run too late, and we feel the annoyance is offset by the firework display on Tuesday night and the fun of  seeing the animals, games, displays and allowing ourselves a treat with bad-for-you fair food. This year it was pulled pork sandwiches on thick Texas toast with French fries. I ate only one slice of the bread and about five fries.

As always, the root beer guys offers a frosty drink.

How about a float?

The best part of the fair for me is visiting the animal barns. I could spend hours strolling through the barns and snapping pictures.

I’m so cute, huh?

So beautiful.

How about this handsome fella?

Unfortunately, there are always a few animals who would rather be home than showing off for the crowds.

I’m not sure I like you staring at me.

I don’t go for the rides, but it’s always fun to see the people who are enjoying them.

My favorite ride as a kid

Here’s a gal who knows how to keep cool at the fair.

I’m clean now!

See you next year for the fair.
